New Zealand in Champions Trophy

New Zealand was always a good team but no one thought they would every pick the trophy. However, in cricket 2000 Champions Trophy they surprised the pundits and fans, when they performed stunningly to lift the cup.

1998 - Bangladesh
New Zealand trounced Zimbabwe by five wickets. Captain Stephen Fleming made 96 while keeper Adam Parore made a half-century. They overcame the total made by Adam Parore and his boys. They were defeated by Sri Lanka by 5 wickets, led by skipper Arjuna Ranatunga (90) and keeper Romesh Kaluwitharana (48). Parore struggled but it was just not enough.

2000 - Kenya
New Zealand picked up the cricket trophy defeating India. When match was going India's way, Chris Cairns took New Zealand to a stunning victory at the Nairobi Gymkhana Club. Cairns made a match-winning 102 not out to help New Zealand win by four wickets. This New Zealand win was their win in a major trophy. They were rewarded for their determined, gritty cricket.

To reach the final, New Zealand defeated Zimbabwe in the quarter-finals by 64 runs. Paul Wiseman and Roger Twose were top performers from New Zealand. In the semi-finals they defeated Pakistan by four wickets. An excellent century by opener Saeed Anwar was in vain. Shayne O'Connor picked up five wickets to become Man of the Match.

2002 - Sri Lanka
Australia pushed New Zealand out of the cricket tournament in pool stages. Glenn McGrath's five-wicket haul saw the Kiwis falling apart at 132 in response to the set total of 296. They defeated Bangladesh in their next pool match when a four-wicket haul by Shane Bond saw Bangladesh collapsing to 77, batting second. They were chasing the target of 244.

2004 - England
New Zealand was defeated by Australia and pushed out of the cricket tournament. Australia got New Zealand out for 198 and won by seven wickets. In another pool match New Zealand defeated USA by 210 runs. Nathan Astle scoring an unbeaten 151-ball 145 to help New Zealand bag the match.

2006 - India
New Zealand lost to Australia by 34 runs. Daniel Vettori's 79 and Kyle Mills' 4-38 were in vain as Australia bundled New Zealand for 206 all out. In an earlier match, New Zealand had defeated Pakistan by 51 runs. In another match it trounced South Africa by 87 runs. However, despite this spirited performance, they crashed out.
