Representing the city of Chennai, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is a Chennai based franchise cricket team. The team features one of the talented Indian cricketers like Mahendra Singh Dhoni as its skipper. Stephen Fleming is acting as the team’s coach. The team is credited for winning the IPL title twice, in 2010 and 2011.
Chennai Super Kings’ Performance in IPL 2008
Team CSK started the season of IPL 2008 with a commendable victory against Kings XI Punjab by 33 runs by scoring 240/5. At the next stage of the tournament, it won against Mumbai Indians by six runs. Kolkata Knight Riders faced defeat against team CSK by 9 wickets and then it was Royal Challengers Bangalore who lost a match against CSK by 13 runs. When its three foreign players like Matthew Hayden, Michael Hussey and Jacob Oram left for national duties, the team suffered a lot. As its result, team CSK faced defeat in next three matches. With its application of right kind of technique and attitude, CSK beat Delhi Daredevils by scoring 188 runs for which Subramaniam Badrinath and Dhoni made half-centuries. As its eleventh match of 2008 season, CSK defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by three runs. In this match the name of Makhaya Ntini deserves special mention for becoming the Man of the Match and making the third hat-trick of the tournament. Despite its sincere effort, it could not win against Royal Challengers Bangalore. With earning 16 points, CSK reached the semi-final after beating Deccan Chargers.
In the semi-final level, it won against Kings XI Punjab by 9 wickets. This victory ensured its way to final level. In the final match against Rajasthan Royals, CSK scored 163/5 in 20 overs and ended up being runners-up of the tournament.
Chennai Super Kings’ Performance in IPL 2009
The CSK team for this season made new addition in its players’ list such as Andrew Flintoff, Murali Vijay, Thilan Thushara and George Bailey. Stephen Fleming took the responsibility to coach team CSK from this season of IPL. In their first game of this season, CSK faced defeat against Mumbai Indians by 19 runs. In its next match ,Matthew Hayden made 65 runs that helped the team to win match against Royal Challengers Bangalore by 92 runs. CSK’s Villers’ first century of this season could not save the team from defeat against Delhi Daredevils in another match . After an abandoned game against Kolkata Knight Riders, it lost to Deccan Chargers by 6 wickets. Team CSK delivered its magnetic performance when it won the next five matches. But unfortunately, it faced defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore by two wickets. Next, Hayden made a half-century against the match against Mumbai Indians. During its match against Kolkata Knight Riders, CSK scored 188/3 in 20 overs but it went down on the last ball of the match. Against Kings XI Punjab, CSK’s score of 116/9 ended Punjab’s chance to reach the semi-finals. CSK earned 17 points from 14 matches and acquired a second place at the league table.
Chennai Super Kings’ Performance in IPL 2010
In this IPL season, CSK included the names of Justin Kemp, a South African cricketer and Thisara Perera, a Sri Lankan cricketer in its players’ list. Other new additions were former ICL cricketer Hemang Badani , local all-rounder C.Ganapathy and Australian pacer Doug Bollinger.
At the beginning of its performance, CSK lost against Deccan chargers by 31 runs. It got success in its second match against Kolkata Knight Riders .In this match CSK beat KKR by 55 runs and Dhoni’s 66 runs that came off 33 balls were enough to prove his expertise as a batsman. After Dhoni’s injury, team CSK beat Delhi Daredevils by 5 wickets under the captaincy of Suresh Raina . Its next game with Kings XI Punjab went to the Super Over. After Dhoni’s return, CSK got success in the match against Royal Challengers and in this match Murali Vijay’s 78 runs helped a lot to enjoy CSK the victorious day. In the next match against Rajasthan Royals, Murali once again showed his magnetic performance by scoring 127 runs which included eight fours and eleven sixes. This match also marked the outstanding performance of Doug Bollinger in bowling field. After a mixed performance in several of its matches, CSK played its last league match against Kings XI Punjab. This particular match will be remembered for Dhoni’s innings of 54 that had an important role behind CSK’s win in it.
In the semi-final level, Dhoni’s team achieved success against Deccan Chargers by 38 runs and entered in the finals. Bollinger became the Man of the Match for his terrific performance of 4-1-13-4. At the final, it played against Mumbai Indians and scored 168/5 in 20 overs. Mumbai Indians lost the match by 22 runs. Raina received the Man of the Match award.
Chennai Super Kings’ Performance in IPL 2011
Team CSK kicked off their performance for this season against Kolkata Knight Riders by two runs. Anirudha Srikkanth, the opener, became the Man of the Match for his 64 runs. After its defeat to Kings XI Punjab, it won against Royhal Challengers Bangalore, thanks to Michael Hussy’s 83 runs. Next, CSK lost against Kochi Tuskers Kerala in a rain affected match. CSK faced defeat against Mumbai Indians by 8 runs as its next game. In its next two matches, both against Pune Warriors India, CSK acquired success. CSK showed its collective effort to win match by playing against Deccan Chargers. As its next game, they won against Rajasthan Royals for the fifth time. It was an unbeaten century partnership between Hussey and Raina that secured CSK’s win by eight wickets in this match. After this tremendous success, CSK lost match against Kolkata Knight Riders in a rain affected match. In its next match against Rajasthan Royals, all the top four batsmen of CSK earned 40-plus runs and won the match by 63 runs. It secured its position to the top of the table by defeating Delhi Daredevils. Dhoni became the Man of the Match for his remarkable innings of 63.
Its last home game was against Kochi Tuskers Kerala and it won the match by eleven runs. In the final league game, they played against Royal Challengers Bangalore. In this match, CSK scored 128/8which also included Dhoni’s innings of 70.
In the first qualifier match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, CSK won the match by six wickets. The Man of the Match award went to Raina for his outstanding 73 runs. At the final level, CSK once again faced Challengers and won the match by 63 runs. It was Murali Vijay who won the Man of the Match award.
Chennai Super Kings’ Performance in IPL 2012
In this season of IPL, CSK’s new addition in its players’ list was Ravindra Jadeja. CSK lost its first match against Mumbai Indians. In its game against Deccan Chargers, Jadeja’s all round performance which was responsible for a 74-run win, drew the attention of cricket lovers. In its match against Delhi Daredevils, CSK lost the match by 8 wickets. Albie Morkel had significant contribution for CSK’s win against Royal Challengers Bangalore as its next game.
CSK went through a shocking defeat in its match against Kings Xi Punjab. Its next defeat came when CSK faced Kolkata Knight Riders. CSK got back its original form after winning a game against Deccan Chargers. In its last league match against Kings XI Punjab, it lost by 7 wickets. Thus it earned 17 points from 16 games and achieved fourth spot on the points table.
Dhoni became the Man of the Match for his 51 runs in CSk’s match against Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator. CSK won this game by 38 runs. In its match against Delhi Daredevils at the second qualifier round, Murali Vijay’s century played a crucial role for CSK’s win. At the final level against Kolkata Knight Riders, CSK’s total score was 190/3. KKR won this match by five wickets.
